The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Jeremy stops by his ex-girlfriend's apartment to collect the last box of his things. Both agree that breaking up was the smart, grown-up choice, but every pleasantry hides a barb: she reminds him what he will never have again, he needles her about her age and her hopes for children, and their farewells escalate into competing boasts about how soon each of them will sleep with someone new. When she hints that she is already involved with his best friend, Jeremy heads for the door in a huff, only for a conciliatory goodbye hug to turn into one last hurried fling.
