A Word, Timothy
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
After his son opens a supposedly impossible desk drawer, a father announces that the young man is adopted and destined to defeat an ancient evil. An ordinary pocketknife becomes a legendary weapon as the father elaborates a perilous quest. The practical instructions involve moving to Saffron Walden, finding factory work and waiting for further guidance. Once Timothy leaves, a brief exchange with his mother reveals the parents have devised an elaborate way to get their idle son out of the house.
