The premise

Here’s the bit.

Hoping a job in a mad scientist's apartment building will win them a place in high society, two squabbling electricians feel their way through its dark basement. When the junior man returns from fetching the toolbox, a gorilla follows him in; he faints on the spot, and his oblivious partner takes tools from the ape before noticing the hairy arm and panicking. The gorilla then unmasks as Kevin McDonald, who explains that a real gorilla would have been in poor taste and launches into an earnest plea for the endangered mountain gorilla. The plea steadily turns into a showbiz pep talk that counts how many gorillas will die during the episode, and he whips up the audience to start the show.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

I'm not really a gorilla. I'm just actor-comedian Kevin McDonald.

By the time it takes us to do the show, a half hour, two gorillas will die.

And who says the show has to be a half hour? Let the networks be damned!

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

The sketch follows the opening titles of Season 1, Episode 3, and Kevin McDonald's closing line launches the rest of the episode. His appeal cites conservationist Dian Fossey and the film Gorillas in the Mist.

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
