The premise

Here’s the bit.

Pharius and Horschstadt arrive minutes before a high-street clothes shop closes, determined to look fashionable enough to attract fresh young prey. Horschstadt emerges from the fitting room piled with layered shirts and a straw hat, citing a television stylist as his guide, while Pharius scoffs and refuses to give up the cloak he has worn for centuries. A trendy young man who seems to share their appetites breezes past with style tips and leaves with a date, deflating them further. When a young shop worker appears, the pair prepare a dramatic strike, but the moment passes and they settle for their new clothes and a quiet table elsewhere.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

Darkness has been upon us for but an hour.

Horschstadt, I've been ravishing maidens in this very cloak since 1482.

A startled fawn has just entered the darkling glade.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

This clip was uploaded by a fan in January 2019; the original BBC One episode aired on 4 December 2010. Horschstadt names the television stylist Gok Wan as his authority on layering.
