The premise
Here’s the bit.
Pharius and Horschstadt arrive at a local Latin dance evening expecting intoxicating romance. Instead, the company and conversation fall far short of the aristocratic adventures they remember, and their enthusiasm dwindles as they discuss an earlier partner’s unglamorous claims to fame. When a lively woman invites them onto the floor, their ornate compliments meet brisk practical concerns about buses and late-night food. Horschstadt adapts his courtship to the evening’s more modest possibilities.
