The setup

The premise

Here’s the bit.

Cleda Dunn stands accused of seventeen counts of witchcraft. Hezekiah testifies that she opened a pickle jar he had fought with for forty minutes, until his own wife wonders aloud whether he is simply weak and Cleda demonstrates her butter-churning grip. Trevor Ed insists she bewitched him, but Cleda explains she merely killed a spider that had him sobbing on his porch in front of his wife. Marcus Fleming opens by condemning the men's insecurity, then reveals his real grievance: she got bigger laughs than him at a family picnic. The judge rules that insecurity doesn't make anyone a witch, and Cleda thanks him before vanishing in a puff of smoke, just as one villager has been trying to tell everyone all along.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

She opened a jar I had been struggling with for 40 minutes! With one twist!

Being strong and fearless doesn't make you a witch! Being funnier than me in front of my family does!

Insecurity does not make Cleda a witch. She's a bad mamma jamma, but she's not a witch.
