The premise

Here’s the bit.

When Mima collapses face-first into her birthday cake, a mother and father finally tell their teenage son and daughter that she has been dead for months and they have been keeping up appearances. The confession keeps expanding: Grandpa, propped up on his walker, has been gone for years and only speaks through a looped recording, Aunt Nancy is gone, and the family dog was always stuffed. Even the neighbours from last night's card game turn out to be stand-ins, while the funeral the parents point to as proof they are improving was held for an uncle who was only asleep.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

Before he died, I recorded his voice.

He was never a live dog. You just thought he was and we kind of went with it.

Yeah, I kind of phoned that one in.
