The premise

Here’s the bit.

Horschstadt comes round in a tattooist's chair after fainting at the first touch of the needle, with Pharius theatrically urging him on. He insists on the agreed design: the name of Chanella, a salon worker whose routine salon attention and holiday small talk the two vampires have read as proof that she is bewitched by him. The tattooist gently suggests henna instead and offers a book of alternatives, which Horschstadt can barely look at without wincing. When a young couple arrive, mock the pair's old-fashioned look and react knowingly to Chanella's name, Horschstadt's romance collapses, and the tattooist's teasing finally drives the vampires to feed on him.
