K-Tel's Fast-Talking Playhouse: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Harvey K-Tel, the voice behind countless gadget commercials, introduces his new Fast-Talking Playhouse: classic drama trimmed down for impatient viewers. Tonight's offering is Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, with Harvey himself as George, Barbra Streisand as Martha, Broderick Crawford as Nick and Sandy Duncan as Honey. The four race through the play's 2 a.m. drinking, the guests' arrival, George's long-winded bar story and the revelation about the couple's imaginary son at a frantic clip, gulping pre-mixed drinks and barely pausing for exits. Back in his armchair, Harvey praises the production for not wasting anyone's time, promises an even shorter Othello next week, and, since the show has finished early, fills the leftover seconds with a musical interlude.

Highly quotable.
When I was 16, back during the Punic Wars, I went to a bar with a group of my friends.
Pretty classy stuff, huh? And best of all, it didn't take up a lot of your time.
And now, since we finished early, a brief musical interlude.

Notes from the archive.
SCTV had already spoofed Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in a Series 2 Mind Games segment. In syndicated versions this playhouse was moved from Thursday Night Live to the My Factory, My Self episode.
