The premise

Here’s the bit.

Reverend Ed Cash and his jittery partner Dr. Carl Pathos welcome viewers to the 595 Club, a cut-rate rival to The 700 Club where absolution is sold like supermarket specials. Cash offers a two-for-one deal on adultery and a frequent-sinner discount, then announces a blue-light sale on any sin beginning with the letter B, which leaves the sweating Pathos squirming. After fielding phone-in sinners and trying to speak in tongues over a bad connection, Cash checks the tote board, finds the donations pitiful, and threatens to phone the spouses of everyone who called in for the adultery special before Pathos leads the congregation in song.

The funny people

Meet the cast. 2

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

We like to call ourselves the 595 Club.

Sounds like someone's been a bad boy.

$11. Now that's pitiful.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

The sketch's title spoofs The 700 Club, the Christian Broadcasting Network program, and Reverend Cash invokes Oral Roberts's 1987 claim that God would take his life unless he raised $8 million. It is the second Hour of Power sketch, following the series debut in season two, episode four.

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
