The premise

Here’s the bit.

A bespectacled executive named Gerald amuses his assistant Tim by giving his secretary pointless orders, then welcomes a rival negotiator, also named Gerald, with a round of insults offered as affection. Once talks begin, the visitor forgets his part, hands over stale baseball tickets and finally admits he has lost his edge: he mixes up clients, sweats under his jacket and has carried an empty briefcase for weeks. Rather than press the advantage, the host confesses that his own mind drifts during meetings, Tim rhapsodizes about the trappings of office life, and the pair restore their guest's confidence by admiring his handshake before the old jabs resume.

The funny people

Meet the cast. 3

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

Call someone who's never called me and tell them I'm returning their call.

Gerald, whatever your opening position is, I find it insulting. Get the hell out of my office!

Gerald, I haven't heard a word you said.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

Kevin McDonald is heard but never seen as Gwen, the host's new secretary, who answers him from off-screen.

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
