The premise

Here’s the bit.

This mock coming-attractions trailer recasts Martin Scorsese's Cape Fear with Eddie Munster as its menacing ex-convict. Released from prison, the adult Eddie, still sporting his oversized round collar and pointed widow's peak, sets out to torment the family of the former network executive he blames for cancelling The Munsters. The trailer races through the thriller's set pieces with monster-family twists: Eddie taunts the executive with a missing pet's collar, a police lineup reveals his tattoos of Herman, Lily and Uncle Fester, and he lights a cigar in the row behind the family at a movie theater. He then phones the lonely teenage daughter, bonding over their troubled fathers, before cornering her at school for a creepy seduction that leads into the snarling title card.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

I was working for the network. He blames me for canceling the Munsters.

My daddy was a ten-foot Frankenstein freak with bolts in his neck.

I don't know whether to look at him or go trick-or-treating.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

A parody of Martin Scorsese's 1991 remake of Cape Fear, with Eddie Munster, the werewolf boy from the 1960s sitcom The Munsters, in the role of Robert De Niro's tattooed ex-convict Max Cady. It aired in the series premiere on Fox on September 27, 1992.
