Apple Picking Ad
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
In a homespun television commercial, Deborah Chickham and her sister invite families to their pick-your-own orchard for some autumn fun, but every selling point backfires. Customer testimonials are lukewarm or worse, the apples are overpriced and mostly rotting on the ground, and Hank, the troubled farmhand who came with the property, can lead visitors only to the single tree still bearing fruit. Hank also shows off a petting zoo of animals he simply found and a gloomy donkey, the sisters tout fruit they do not actually grow and stale cider doughnuts, and their Halloween hayride turns out to be run by local teenage boys who frighten even Hank. Finally admitting the farm never makes a profit and is propped up by an unlikely Hollywood screenplay, the sisters suggest viewers might be better off at the grocery store.

Highly quotable.
What our apples lack in flavor they make up for in on the ground.
I will take you to the one tree that's working this year.
If they pull you off the hayride, fight like hell.
A little extra
Notes from the archive.
Performed live in the studio, with real farm animals, during the Season 45 premiere hosted by Woody Harrelson; SNL Archives notes that Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon broke character when the donkey brayed off camera.
