The premise

Here’s the bit.

Presented as a cheaply made 1970s exploitation picture, the sketch opens with Funkenstein's monster stumbling into a roller-disco and sending the dancers fleeing. Back in the lab, Dr. Funkenstein promises his heartbroken creation a mate and instantly brings the Bride of Funkenstein to life, but she has barely introduced herself before Blackula materializes in a cloud of smoke to claim her for himself. The two monsters square off until the doctor begs them to stop the fighting, and the Bride turns both suitors down with a speech about being her own creation. The reconciled creatures then return to the disco, where they reassure a terrified patron that they are far from the scariest thing around.

The funny people

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

I am a strong woman of color looking for a soul brother to live in Nubian ecstasy with.

Don't be afraid of us, sister. We ain't as scary as white folks.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

Part of MADtv's recurring Funkenstein blaxploitation monster spoofs: later season 9 installments pitted Funkenstein against Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and a werewolf hooker, and the series continued into season 10. Aisha Tyler was the episode's special guest.

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
