Thanksgiving Phone Call
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
While Fran and her daughter Sandy prepare a 26-pound turkey, Dad answers the kitchen phone to Patty, the daughter who couldn't make it home for Thanksgiving. After passing along some motherly fussing about dish towels, he learns that Patty has finally been on a date with a drummer, and as Sandy prompts him with eager questions he innocently repeats each increasingly suggestive answer about the man's hands, his shoe size and his love of deep-sea diving, offering earnest fatherly advice in return. When Sandy mentions she is busy stuffing the turkey, he briefly suspects her of the same thing, then hangs up and proudly announces to the whole kitchen exactly what Patty's good news means.
