Crossed Lines
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Gerald phones his friend Simon from a supermarket payphone while Walter calls his wife Doris from the next booth to check his shopping list. Gerald’s gossip about a romantic encounter repeatedly lines up with Walter’s innocent questions about groceries, producing a stream of accidental double meanings. Neither man notices the apparent conversation between them. A blonde woman then arrives with champagne for Walter, drawing Gerald’s attention away from his friend’s story and toward the neighbouring booth.
