Do Not Press the Walk Button
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Two men in business suits wait at a downtown intersection. When one reaches for the walk button, the other stops him: he has already pressed it, so pressing again is pointless. As the light cycles without changing for them, his defense of that single press grows more frantic, comparing it to a finished military mission, demanding to know whether he is considered dumber than a rat and praising the engineers who built the signal, until he is pleading for the button to be left alone. His companion gives up and waits, then sneaks a press; the signal flips to walk at once and he steps straight into the path of a passing car. Unfazed, the businessman greets the next commuter to arrive with the same warning.
