Puritans Leave for America
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
On the quayside, HHTV News travel correspondent John Showergel interviews Puritans Unity and Ezekiel before they leave England for America. Ezekiel keeps getting the mission backwards, assuming they are fleeing a strict religion rather than founding an even stricter one, and his hopes of a New World Christmas are flatly crushed by Unity. Showergel cheerfully waves off the Speedwell as the first Puritan ship bound for America, only to break the news moments later that it is sinking. The soaked pair trudge back and resolve to sail on the Mayflower instead, though Unity is far more offended at being called one of the guys.

Say it with us
Highly quotable.
There won't be a Christmas, Ezekiel. That's not going to be a thing.
Breaking news. Or should I say leaking news?
A little extra
Notes from the archive.
Aired in the series 8 episode marking 400 years since the Mayflower’s 1620 voyage. Historically, the Speedwell was found unseaworthy and turned back, so its Pilgrims crossed on the Mayflower alone.
