The premise
Here’s the bit.
Unsure about something he has found during a routine procedure, surgeon Peter leaves his team at the table to ring a colleague named Bob. Bob reassures him almost at once, but every attempt Peter makes to say goodbye is swallowed by more pleasantries, half-finished sentences and fresh topics. Behind him the theatre staff grow increasingly frantic as the patient's condition collapses, yet he stays pinned to the wall phone, too courteous to hang up, even after the operation has clearly gone fatally wrong.
