The setup

The premise

Here’s the bit.

Detric shows off the new wireless speaker at his girlfriend's family reunion just as her mother Joyce and Aunt Bev start picking at her hair, her weight and the five years she has lived with Detric without a ring. Whenever the needling gets heated he cues the opening of Bell Biv DeVoe's "Poison", and the whole family drops everything to dance, Grandma Ruby included. The tactic backfires when Curtis mentions seeing Detric with another woman at a happy hour: his girlfriend sees through the song, Detric counters with a lease he found in her purse, and the feud finally dissolves into a line dance to Frankie Beverly and Maze's "Before I Let Go".

Highly quotable.

When you get some hair that don't come with tags, Aunt Bev.

Shorty was thicker than frozen grits.

Quit playin' the beginning of "Poison" and answer my question, negro!
