Bill's Back from Vietnam
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
In 1968 the Howards throw a backyard barbecue to celebrate their son Bill's return from Vietnam, but his old friends can tell something is off. The new Bill praises America in stilted English, claims a love of Mickey Mouse the real Bill famously hated, and blames gaps in his memory on a sniper's bullet. When the friends press him, he spells out every suspicion for them, right down to a plan to lie low at a liberal arts college before assassinating President Johnson. They go to warn Mr. and Mrs. Howard, but the proud parents are so happy to have their war hero home that the friends lose their nerve and instead strike a private deal: he can keep being Bill as long as he drops the assassination. He radios his handlers to call it off, and the barbecue erupts into a cheer for friends and America until he goes one step too far.
