The Man Who Repeats Things
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Arthur Wilkins strikes up a conversation with George Protheroe at a crowded pub, then persistently repeats his new acquaintance’s remarks. Arthur explains that he follows a repeating pattern, prompting George to try working around it before testing him with increasingly elaborate tongue-twisters. Arthur’s responses make the encounter more frustrating, and George eventually appeals to the rest of the pub. The other drinkers join in the echoing, sending him hurrying out.
