The premise

Here’s the bit.

While the Blue Jays play on TV and dinner is readied, Mother and the family keep tiptoeing around George, a balding adult son who is in a foul mood. He makes crude jokes, sticks a pencil up his nose, gets scolded for misbehaving and launches into a bitter rant about being demoted on the factory line because he has only seven fingers. After stripping to his underwear and crashing around the living room, he returns to the table bare-chested, formally apologizes for his behaviour and asks to say grace, leaving the rest of the family to carry on with the holiday meal.

The funny people

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

But if Kelly Gruber makes one more mistake, he'll have to change his name to Kelly Boober.

I may not remember how I lost the other three, but at least I can laugh about it.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

The sketch is set at Canadian Thanksgiving in October, which is why the family is following a Toronto Blue Jays game and joking about third baseman Kelly Gruber; it aired as the closing sketch of a December 1993 episode. Fan guides also list it as "Awkward Thanksgiving".

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
