The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Styled as an episode of The Real Housewives, complete with glossy introductions and confessional interviews, this sketch follows Julie Bishop, Hillary Clinton, Angela Merkel and Helen Clark as they skip out on G20 business for a girls' day out. Former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark is launching her own line of power blazers and sensible shoes, and Merkel tries on outfits for upcoming summits while the women trade catty asides to camera. When Clinton arrives fresh from a fundraising meeting and wants the same jacket Bishop has already picked out, a polite disagreement about being photographed in matching outfits escalates into an international incident, until Clark distracts everyone with a pair of her orthopedic shoes.

Highly quotable.
I've got the Russian sanctions meeting tonight and I want Putin to poop in his pants.
It's just a blazer, Julie. Lighten up.
This is classic American imperialism.
A little extra
Notes from the archive.
All four leads were cast members of the early-1990s Australian sketch show Fast Forward, and Jane Turner and Gina Riley, who play Bishop and Clinton here, went on to create and star in Kath & Kim.
