The premise

Here’s the bit.

Over lunch, Harriet tells her friend Felicia that she feels like a nobody, and Felicia waves the worry away. The restaurant then demonstrates it at every turn: the head waiter takes Felicia's order without seeing Harriet, she has no place setting, her shrimp cocktail and steak are forgotten, another diner tries to take her chair while she is sitting in it, and a busboy wheels her across the room draped over his dish cart without noticing. Fed up, Harriet stands and demands that the whole restaurant acknowledge she exists. Her outburst ends with waiters and diners sprawled across a wrecked dining room, yet when she proudly takes the blame, the staff still decide someone must have tripped.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

I'm the only one in my department.

It's like I'm the invisible woman. Nobody pays any attention to me at all.

I am a somebody. I exist.
