The premise
Here’s the bit.
Jack Harper is nervous about a minor operation, but Dr. Cooper assures him that he will soon recover. Then Eunice and Ed arrive with alarming stories, business worries and an argument that Jack cannot escape from his bed. Mama adds her own complaints and grim medical advice. The supposedly caring visit becomes a discussion of wills, silverware and a fishing rod, followed by suspicions about Jack’s wife and a plumber. After the relatives finally leave, their anxious patient reaches for the telephone to check the rumor himself.
