The setup

The premise

Here’s the bit.

The pilots convince themselves that two women in the mess are attracted to them. Their plan to act sophisticated unravels into crude slang, a dispute over swing musicians and an unexpected demand for repayment. One pilot invokes equality to justify their behavior before making a blunt proposition. The women walk away offended, leaving the men to congratulate each other on an encounter they have completely misread.
