The premise
Here’s the bit.
A village magistrate weighs accusations against Mary Bishop and Elizabeth Parker. Mary’s red hair and freckles horrify the crowd, while Elizabeth’s conspicuous spells and attacks barely distract them. A minister reveals his own red hair and appeals for fair treatment, only to alarm the magistrate further with his Canadian identity. With just two stakes available, the village releases Elizabeth to make room for its new target, and she departs for a date with Satan.
