First Impression
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
A first meeting between a woman's (Melissa Villaseñor) parents (Jason Momoa, Heidi Gardner) and boyfriend (Beck Bennett) goes awry when the boyfriend wants to make a good first impression. He suggests playing hide-and-seek with the father, which Jason Momoa's enthusiastic dad character immediately embraces with childlike excitement. The absurd sketch escalates as Beck's character strips down, greases himself up with oil, and tries to hide around the house while Jason Momoa's dad character hunts for him with infectious enthusiasm and relentless determination. The father punches through walls, sets pie traps, and follows Beck's giggling voice throughout the house. Once Beck is found, the sketch takes an oddly heartwarming turn where the father thoroughly examines and admires the greased-up boyfriend, ultimately giving his approval in a tender moment that closes with a "Happy Holidays from SNL" title card.

The sketch showcases the absurdist comedy style that writers Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin are known for (they later created "I Think You Should Leave" together). Jason Momoa's enthusiastic and committed performance was widely praised by viewers. The sketch features Beck Bennett's willingness to commit to physically demanding and bizarre comedy. The oddly heartwarming ending subverts expectations and adds to the sketch's unique tone. Holiday-themed sketch (family gathering during Christmas season). Many commenters noted this has "Kyle [Mooney] written all over it" due to its absurdist uncomfortable humor. The sketch was referenced in Drew Gooden's comedy analysis videos.
