The setup

A patriotic public-service spot uses holiday timing to stake a bold national claim.

The premise

Here’s the bit.

In a mock government-sponsored fact segment, a Canadian presenter framed by autumn harvest and turkey imagery points out that Canada holds its Thanksgiving weeks before the United States. From that calendar quirk he draws a proud and dubious conclusion about who came up with the holiday, and the spot closes with an official seal of approval.

The funny people

Meet the cast. 1

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

That means we must have invented it because we celebrate it first.

Did you know that Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving at the beginning of October and yet Americans celebrate their Thanksgiving at the end of November?

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

One of four It's a Canadian Fact spots in this episode's CBC takeover; the others feature Andrea Martin (Niagara Falls), John Candy (Football) and Joe Flaherty (Pearl Harbor).

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
