The premise
Here’s the bit.
Five wild turkeys pause on a chilly walk through the autumn woods to chat about the nip in the air, new feathers and when they will next eat. A distant bang stirs a bad memory of the last time the leaves were falling, and after a round of hopeful explanations they accept that hunters are shooting at them. The flock bolts, grumbling that their top-heavy bodies and short legs make them too slow, crouches in the leaves hoping to pass for a pile of foliage, and floats a plan to sneak up and grab the hunters' guns before scattering again. Richard and Terri run up to report hunters everywhere, one turkey flaps desperately in an attempt to fly, sobbing that his grandparents were both shot, and when the firing stops another member of the flock shares a grandpa's treasured advice, a halting verse about bonding together as beautiful birds. The others listen patiently, then decide they had better keep running.
