The premise

Here’s the bit.

In a cheap local-station commercial, Evelyn Woods sits at an office desk and sells a course in rapid-fire speaking, pitching it as the cure for cramped business lunches and costly long-distance calls. Her own delivery accelerates into a breathless blur as she brags about her speed, then she announces that a companion school for fast thinking is still in development, reassuring viewers that nobody will notice the difference in the meantime.

Highly quotable.

Well, time is money, but now talk is cheap with the new Evelyn Wood Speed Talking School.

Right now we're working on the Evelyn Wood Speed Thinking School.

You'll be speaking so fast no one will know whether or not you had time to think.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

The commercial spoofs Evelyn Wood's speed-reading courses, sold as Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics. SCTV reran it in the Series 1 episode "Dialing for Dollars", first aired 24 February 1977.

The rabbit hole continues
