The premise

Here’s the bit.

On a Food Network-style Thanksgiving baking show, the host asks each contestant to present a cake inspired by what they are thankful for. Stacy's heartfelt story about her daughter collapses along with her cake, and she admits she invented both; would-be rapper Mike stumbles through an intro before revealing a lopsided pilgrim and turkey. Returning contestant Sandy wheels out an immaculate pumpkin-topped fall cake, but the judges nitpick it and turn to sample Mike's creations, which come alive, scream and get sick, leaving Mike convinced he has opened a portal to hell. Finally Ralph explains his futuristic space-travel cake as the judges struggle to pick a winner.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

I thought if I pretended to cry, you wouldn't notice that my cake was bad.

I also do not have a daughter. I made that all up.

I think my cake is so bad, I opened a portal to hell.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

This is the fourth of five Baking Championship sketches on SNL (2019 to 2024); Heidi Gardner's Sandy and Kyle Mooney's Ralph appear in all of them.

One more couldn’t hurt.
