The Cat in the Hat and Linda
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Rain has the siblings stuck indoors, so they recite a rhyme to conjure a playmate and a very shaggy Cat in the Hat bounds in with his usual patter. Their mother recognises him at once, and the reunion turns into an awkward, teary catch-up that the children cannot follow. Bound to stay because the kids imagined him, the Cat fumbles through juggling and cut-out tricks while the mother and he trade charged glances. When the daughter's dancing makes him wonder whether she is his, a Thing 2 in a blue wig storms in as Linda's husband and tells the visitor to get out, leaving the Cat to leave in rhyme.

Linda
Why are you sitting filled with dismay? You should go out and enjoy this fine day.
- 00:06
It's been raining, dear mother, as long as we've known. We are bored, sweet dear mother, bored to the bone. I want someone to play with, someone who's fun. Perhaps if we imagine, we'll find the one.

- 00:58
The Cat in the Hat
Show? Uh, yeah. Yeah, sure, a show. I always appear when children are so sad, so tell me, young kiddies, where is your dad? Like, does he live here? Is he still in the kitchen?
- 01:12
Linda
You know what? He's at work. He's reliable. I don't have to say a rhyme to make him come home.
