Willie and Frankie meet in an empty office hallway while checking the doors on their night shift. Willie misses the social life of their former messenger jobs, but an ordinary complaint about his sore shoulder soon becomes a competition in self-inflicted misery. The two calmly trade increasingly grotesque stories, helping each other supply the details as though they were discussing everyday inconveniences. Frankie’s final anecdote nearly makes Willie lose his composure before they exchange a friendly goodbye and return to their rounds.
