The premise
Here’s the bit.
A newspaper’s verdict on Portland sends the mayor searching his own office for evidence of diversity. His staff fail to reassure him, and a visitor’s complaint about the weather becomes another misunderstanding. Fred offers a personal example of mixed ancestry, then explains home DNA tests. The mayor seizes on the idea of testing the whole city, dismissing practical objections while maintaining his own narrow assumptions about other people’s backgrounds.
