The premise
Here’s the bit.
The headmaster visits Ken, who cannot understand why his class needs another explanation of fractions after the summer holiday. When the headmaster explains that a new group of children arrives each September, Ken struggles to accept that teaching is a repeating job rather than a task he can finish. His protest grows into an argument about the endless supply of pupils who still need to learn maths, while the headmaster reveals how he escaped the classroom himself.
