Middle-Aged Man Island: Thinking of a Conversation
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
It is day twelve of Middle-Aged Man Island, and a breathless reality-show narrator promises downtime by the campfire for the contestants, who have sat in total silence for forty minutes. Prompted to make some television, the two men in their chairs and a third sprawled in his tent hunt for a topic, decide the problem is that no woman is there to get things going, and stage an awkward role-play in which one of them pretends to be the woman. When that stalls they drift back to the Second World War, which they already covered all last week, earnestly defend loving it, and treat a quip about a favourite war as a serious question before the chat dissolves into bin days.

Say it with us
Highly quotable.
You be the woman, you start us off and then I'll get us going.
But the Second World War was A, very important, and B, brilliant.
Actually, it was a serious question. What's your favourite war?
