The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Congressman Paul Brooks of Michigan addresses a C-SPAN-covered town hall, promising to work for every constituent. Each time he names a group, the camera helpfully finds someone who fits it, and when he gets to gay people it lands on a quiet man in a sweater and stays there. As the congressman's speech about marriage equality grows longer and warmer, the man tries everything to escape the shot: staring ahead, turning away, putting an arm around the woman beside him, ducking down between the seats, even pointing toward a flamboyantly dressed neighbor, who turns out to be straight. The speech ends by inviting everyone to turn to the gay person near them, and the whole crowd turns to look at him.

Highly quotable.
Folks don't choose to be gay any more than I choose to be straight.
I'm sorry, I think gays are people too.
So turn to that gay person near you and see that they are no different than you are.

Comedy Central released this sketch online on June 30, 2015, as a web exclusive ahead of the show's fifth-season premiere and four days after the Supreme Court's nationwide same-sex marriage ruling. Early coverage called it "Town Hall Meeting."
