The premise

Here’s the bit.

Fox promotes the first annual awards for commercials that pretend to be real television, hosted by a hyperactive, white-haired Juiceman and his grinning sidekick Gordy. The first category honours get-rich-quick schemes, with clips of a yacht-owning seminar huckster and a towering Tony Robbins promising to unleash viewers' inner financial giant; the winner gloats until the hosts shoo him off. The second award, for physically repellent infomercial hosts, pits big-haired hair-care queen Lori Davis against crew-cut fitness evangelist Susan Powter, each nominated with the suggestion that she try the other's product. They share the trophy, thank their customers with backhanded speeches and end up trading insults at the podium.

Highly quotable.

I want to unleash the financial giant within you.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

The nominees spoof real infomercial personalities of the early 1990s: juicer pitchman Jay "The Juiceman" Kordich, self-help speaker Tony Robbins, hair-care entrepreneur Lori Davis and Stop the Insanity! fitness host Susan Powter.

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
