Diner Wink
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Trying to get out of a promised ice cream stop, a father tells his daughter that cold weather freezes every ice cream machine and quietly enlists a stranger at the neighbouring diner table to confirm it. The man happily plays along, then keeps going: he claims to be the dad's old friend and the same age, boasts of owning duplicate and triplicate classic cars, and describes a glamorous but gravely ill wife, while the dad is forced to vouch for each new invention in front of his unconvinced daughter.
