Anglo-Saxon Ghost Hunt
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Shot in grainy night-vision like a paranormal reality programme, a curly-haired ghost hunter leads Ethelberga of Norwich around her pitch-dark hut to track down the spirit that has been troubling her. The noises lead to a jar holding the ashes of her husband, killed by Vikings, and the presenter explains that, as Saxons believed, a spirit sealed up in a jar turns angry unless the pot has a small hole in its side. When a second jar turns out to hold an uncle also slain by Vikings, he mixes the ashes together so the spirits have company, and declares the haunting cured. His closing tip, that beheading the dead stops them returning, is interrupted by a real Viking raider bursting into the hut.
