Join the Army
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Paul listens as a friend confidently argues for higher petrol prices to encourage public transport. Hoping to sound just as persuasive, he repeats the idea at dinner with another group. Their objections about children, rural travel and rising costs leave him unable to defend the proposal, and the discussion turns into open ridicule. A closing recruitment pitch presents his social defeat as a reason to consider life in the Army.
