Juror
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Two prospective jurors take very different approaches to their civic duty: one settles down to complete his paperwork, while the other announces a plan to get himself dismissed. The reluctant volunteer tells the Black jury selector that racial prejudice makes him unsuitable to serve. Asked to demonstrate that prejudice with a direct insult, he stalls, hedges and offers increasingly awkward substitutes. The selector gives him a final choice between proving his claim and returning to the forms. Unable to follow through, the man starts asking about the accommodation arrangements instead.
