The premise

Here’s the bit.

Ken, a television commentator, turns up late to a studio where a football match is about to go out with his live commentary. On the phone from the film room, Harry confesses that he dropped every reel and a trolley ran over them, so he will patch the footage together on the fly. Ken gamely narrates whatever appears, and his commentary lurches from a Spurs attack to a cricket catch, a golf putt, high diving, wrestling, snooker, tennis, horse racing and ballroom dancing, mixing up players, scores and events until a closing clip of Harold Wilson is handed the programme's goodnight.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

I've dropped a whole shelf of film and George ran over them with a trolley.

So this is Harold Wilson saying ta-ta and keep your nose clean.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

Sally James, who plays the studio assistant, later became known as co-presenter of the ITV children's show Tiswas from 1977 to 1982.
