The premise

Here’s the bit.

Standing by a phone booth at night, Barry tells the camera how his best friend of twenty years, Mike, set out to buy the perfect lamp for his living room, found a seven-foot, two-hundred-pound model at a store called Lamp Paradise, and was crushed when a careless salesman brought it down. Steeling himself to call Mike's wife Monica, Barry instead gets drawn into small talk about her new bicycle built for two, loses his nerve, and asks to speak to six-year-old Donnie. He blurts the news to the boy, tells him to pass it on to his mother, and is soon pouring out his own troubles at work and with his ageing parents to the unexpectedly mature child, until Donnie puts him on hold for another call.

Highly quotable.

A 200-pound baby that was seven feet high. A lamp for God.

Seven seconds later, Mike was dead, smothered by a 200-pound lamp.

He was hit by a very, very big lamp.

A little extra
