The premise

Here’s the bit.

Ahead of a noon meeting with Mr. Phillips about some contracts he can't explain, Mr. Tudball devises an escape hatch: when he stands up, Mrs. Wiggins is to buzz him on the intercom with an urgent phone call. Rehearsing the signal goes badly, since she is busy with her nails, answers in person instead of through the box, and takes every instruction literally. Exasperated, Tudball has them swap desks so he can demonstrate from her side, only for the roles to collide again over who is calling, until their shouting match ends with Tudball firing her and Wiggins quitting on the spot.

Highly quotable.

Would it be more handy if I put a revolving door in here for you?

Oh, thank you for that news flash. Do you have any news on the Hindenburg?

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

A follow-up to an earlier Season 9 sketch, aired January 10, 1976, in which Mr. Tudball first tries to teach Mrs. Wiggins the office's new intercom system.
