The premise

Here’s the bit.

After five straight hours of East Coast and West Coast games, Carol can't get more than a grunt out of Roger, who doesn't even react to her outlandish news about his sister. Chris suggests she try acting sexy, but Carol turns the sound down instead and blows up; Roger insists his one day of football isn't too much to ask, and Carol storms out vowing to stay away until the season ends, an exit the show promptly reruns as an instant replay. She returns and promises to leave him in peace, only for their divorced neighbor Cindy to drop by for some eggs and get Roger to switch the set off and turn on the charm. Once Cindy has sashayed off to the kitchen, Carol and then Chris try copying her walk, and the afternoon collapses into a tussle over the television.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

Roger, do you realize that between the East Coast football and the West Coast football, you haven't talked to me for five whole hours?

I am leaving this house and I am not coming back until the end of the football season.

Why don't you penalize her for backfield in motion?

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

The official clip's description places this sketch in season 3, episode 9, but TVDB and IMDb list it in the November 17, 1969 episode with Andy Griffith and Merv Griffin, which is episode 8. IMDb lists Elaine Joyce, who plays the neighbor Cindy, as uncredited.

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
