Apology: Pippin
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Seated on their pastel sofa beneath a framed memorial photo of the programme's dog, presenters Alistair and Tina take turns explaining, in gentle nursery-school terms, why their colleague Jason is not with them today. Viewers' stamps and old clothes had raised a fortune for a holiday centre for disabled people in the New Forest, but Jason quietly moved the money into another account and spent it on a mood-lifting powder he planned to resell at a profit. After thieves raided his chosen hiding place, the programme's own time capsule, he tried to fix matters alone, with grim results that also account for the dog's photograph. The pair spell out how badly he has let everyone down, then snap straight back into their sunny routine for the next item.

Say it with us
Highly quotable.
This powder, like the holiday centre, is designed to make people feel very happy.
But there was a horrible incident with a chest freezer, Pippin and some plastic bags.
Jason let us down, he let you down, but most of all, he let himself down.
A little extra
Notes from the archive.
Ben Miller does not appear in this installment: his presenter Jason is the absent subject of the apology. Wikipedia notes that the recurring presenters parody Blue Peter and are loosely based on that programme's on-air explanation to its young viewers after presenter Richard Bacon was sacked.
The rabbit hole continues
One more couldn’t hurt.
