The premise

Here’s the bit.

Matt Meese takes the stage at a comedy club with a set about pointlessly obvious product labels, but each punchline sets off an old man in the audience whose laugh sounds like he cannot breathe. The comic keeps stopping to check on him and is assured every time that the man is fine, so he grows annoyed as other patrons pass over pills and an oxygen tank. Convinced the crowd is indulging a bit, he carries on with his material while paramedics work on the collapsed man and a coroner zips him into a body bag, insisting the man will pop up any moment until he realizes he really has died.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

Is this one of those new color TVs everyone's talking about?

I don't want to be the insensitive guy up on the stage still making jokes, but seriously guys, you're enabling him now.

And I just let him die.

Please welcome to the stage for the first time, Matthew Meese.

  2. 00:10

    Comedian

Thank you. It's great to be here. I was out looking for a new TV the other day, and the label on the box said 51-inch LCD touchscreen color TV. And I asked the sales rep, is this one of those new color TVs everyone's talking about? Oh. Are you okay, sir?

  3. 00:31

    Speaker 2

    I'm fine.

  4. 00:33

    Comedian

Are you sure? It sounded like you were having trouble breathing, so that's...

  5. 00:36

    Speaker 2 ?

    Nope.

  6. 00:37

    Comedian

Okay. Well, good. Okay. But seriously, every label said color TV on it. If they left that off, would people really wonder, does this 70-inch 3D screen with artificial intelligence come in color or just black and white? Because it doesn't say. Oh, okay. Clearly, this man is in pain. Somebody needs to...

  7. 00:57

    Speaker 2

    I'm fine!

  8. 01:00

    Comedian

Really? Because this, to me, reads, oh, my heart is having problems.

  9. 01:05

    Speaker 2

    No, just enjoying your jokes.

  10. 01:08

    Comedian

Okay. All right, good. Well, they did say to knock him dead, so... Oh. Clearly, you are fine, so I won't stop anymore. Other unnecessary labels I'd like to see? A 26-letter keyboard. Right? You don't need a spec... Or a... Or a... Oh, boy. A mouse with a built-in clicker. Right? Right? The phone with built-in ringer. Gotta have... Oh, okay, pills. Pills are serious. Somebody needs to help him take those right now. Thank you. Okay. Cold refrigerator. Right? You just, you don't need to specify anything like that. And what cold refrigerator would be complete without the frozen ice dispenser?

  11. 02:12

    Comedian ?

    He's fine. No, no.

  12. 02:25

    Comedian

Yeah, and inside that fridge we could find the 2% cow's milk. Okay, really? We're gonna do this? He doesn't need that. You don't need to do that. He's just doing a thing, guys. He's been doing it all night. Okay, really? He's fine. We don't... Body bag? Really? You don't need to do that. I don't want to be the insensitive guy up on the stage still making jokes, but seriously guys, you're enabling him now. That's what you're doing. Okay, this is all fun, but he's just gonna say he's fine in just a moment. Here it comes. Don't zip it, because

  13. 03:08

    he's dead.

  14. 03:15

    Comedian

And I just let him die. I can't believe I've done this.

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
